The Opportunity
The Department of Legal Studies in the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning lecturer position, anticipated to begin Fall 2025. This is a full-time faculty position with the primary assignment on the UCF Downtown Campus.
The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the Department of Legal Studies through teaching courses offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses within our core curriculum. Duties will include teaching the equivalent of four courses per semester (both face-to-face and by web delivery) and service.
The Department of Legal Studies offers undergraduate degrees (B.A./B.S.) in legal studies, multiple interdisciplinary undergraduate certificates and a graduate certificate to a diverse student body preparing students for success in law school, graduate school, and the legal profession. The department serves approximately 700 legal studies majors, has 14 full-time faculty, support staff, and a strong corps of adjunct faculty. Student opportunities include legal internships, study abroad and alternative spring break experiences. Students may also participate in nationally-competitive mediation, mock trial and moot court teams as well as advanced undergraduate research in the university’s Honors in the Major program. Minimum Qualifications:

  • A J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, experience practicing law (private or governmental) for at least five (5) years, and a member in good standing of a state bar. Applicants must have experience teaching law or legal studies courses in higher education.
  • All areas of specialization will be considered as long as the candidate’s core focus is law, legal institutions, or the practice of law.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mentoring or supervising experience with students through professional opportunities (e.g., trainings, internships, conferences, professional associations).
  • Litigation and trial experience.
  • Editorial experience, including but not limited to law review membership.
  • Additional graduate degree (Master, Doctorate or LLM).
  • Ability to teach legal research and legal writing.
