Description:

Duties/Pligte

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning within the Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology.
  • Conducting an active and productive research programme to give opportunity at expanding an existing research focus area within the Department, and publication of such research in relevant, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Developing and evaluating course material, particularly in area-wide integrated pest management (AW-IPM).
  • Sourcing and managing external research funds,
  • Supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Developing national and international, inter-disciplinary research and industry partnerships and networks.
  • Involvement with community interaction projects.
  • Involvement with administrative service delivery at departmental, Faculty and University level.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • PhD in Entomology or Zoology.
  • Proven experience in, or the ability to actively participate in an undergraduate teaching programme related to AW-IPM and basic entomology.
  • Proven ability to integrate, or relevant experience in the fields of entomology, biological control of insect pests, insect monitoring, crop protection, general ecology, or other related fields such as chemical ecology, engineering and geography.
  • Proficiency in data analysis e.g. multivariate statistics.
  • Peer-reviewed scientific publications, particularly in the field of applied entomology, commensurate with the level of appointment.
  • The ability and proficiency to obtain external research funding commensurate with the level of appointment.
  • Relevant experience in industry-related, applied research and engagement.
  • Postgraduate student supervision commensurate with the level of appointment.
  • Language proficiency suited to a multilingual university.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Knowledge of spatial statistics and geographic information systems would be advantageous.
