Job Overview
Are you looking for a new challenge working for an organization where you can make a difference? If yes, please read on! We are looking for a Legal Administrative Assistant who will provide administrative support to our Litigation department. You will report to the Managers of Litigation.
Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Prepare arguments, pleadings, affidavits and other documents in the required form for Commission or court proceedings
  • Maintain and update Litigation Work in Progress (WIP) databases
  • Maintain a comprehensive diary system to ensure timely response to correspondence, compliance with limitation periods, attendance at appointments, filing of pleadings and arguments with the courts and the Commission and any necessary file follow-up
  • Arrange for service of documents on respondents and witnesses to Commission hearings, along with the appropriate conduct money. Arrange respondent/witness travel for attendance and ensure payment of same
  • Maintain and routinely update various precedent systems and other legal reference materials
  • Prepare and send out correspondence on own initiative or as drafted by litigation counsel
  • Draft court orders, affidavits and miscellaneous documents for Commission proceedings and court matters
  • In conjunction with Technology and Evidence Control staff, prepare disclosure relating to files, under the direction of litigation counsel
  • Conduct searches of Commission database, Supreme Court Registry
  • Answer enquiries from outside counsel, members of the public and other Commission staff about public information relating to hearings, historical cases, and quasi-judicial tribunal procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has:

  • A Legal Administrative Assistant diploma plus a minimum of five years of Legal Administrative Assistant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a collegial manner with other support staff, litigation counsel, and investigators
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks, pay meticulous attention to details and work within time constraints

Salary Range:
$57,150 (minimum) - $71,439 (midpoint) - $85,727 (maximum)
The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate’s relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint.
