WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Legal Assistant Support role has the same duties and responsibilities of a Legal Administrative Assistant role working in any of the practice areas and plays a vital role in delivering legal services to our clients. The focus of this role is to assist with work overflow, provide coverage for LAA absences and any other tasks as may be assigned. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to strengthen and widen their experience, while growing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of Legal Administrative Assistant Program
- 1 - 5 years’ experience minimum as a Legal Administrative Assistant, litigation, corporate or both
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience drafting standard correspondence is an asset
- Knowledge of statutory due diligence searches is an asset
- Adaptable to changing demands and schedules
- Able to take direction, show initiative and ask questions
- Experience with billing/invoicing processes in a legal environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage for absent Legal Assistants and assist Lawyers
- Attend to overflow requests from Legal Assistants, Paralegals and Lawyers
- Prepare correspondence, faxes, documents, etc. using email instructions, copy typing and handwritten notes: using application software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe)
- Open files and maintain filing system, and close files
- Assisting in document preparation for proceedings in the BC Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada, as well as arbitration and mediation proceedings
- Maintain bring forward systems to ensure follow up and receipt of requested materials/documents
- Prepare and email invoices to clients (using Acumin accounting software)
- Post time sheets (using Acumin accounting software)
- Mentor Legal Support Clerks
- Provide back up coverage to reception and office services with ad hoc projects
- Perform other related duties as required
