Description:
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
This position performs personal injury and federal court litigation assistance, legal research and other paralegal and administrative work in the Department of Law. It reports to the Chief Deputy City Attorney, and through the Chief Deputy City Attorney to assigned staff attorneys. The ideal candidate is organized, diligent, and can work both independently and as part of a team. This is a challenging role with varied responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
- Knowledge of research techniques and sources of information related to litigation support.
- Ability to work effectively under considerable time pressure.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments from several sources.
- Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information.
- Ability to research, analyze, summarize and report finding.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public.
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
- Represent the organization with professionalism and integrity when dealing with clients and court officials.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of organizational and client information.
- An employee will not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- High school diploma
- 1 year experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Successful attainment of passing scores on the pre-employment test.
Preferred Experience and Training
Certification as a legal assistant.
- Knowledge of online court filing systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- 1 year of experience working with multiple lawyers simultaneously.
- 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced legal environment.
- 1 year of experience working in a municipal or government setting
- Word-processing ability of 50–70 words per minute with high degree of accuracy
