Job Description:
Legal Assistant
The Nebraska Department of Justice is currently seeking a full-time legal assistant.
Position Summary: This position will be responsible for assisting multiple attorneys with document preparation and proofreading, including pleadings, briefs, legal opinions, and correspondence. Additional duties include opening and maintaining files, logging and tracking records requests, electronic filing of court documents, tracking rules and regulations and opinions, and producing reports.
Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with comparable state agency legal assistant positions and candidate experience. Full state benefits provided.

Preferred Qualifications: 1-2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary in a private law firm, corporate, or governmental agency preferred.
Associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate must have outstanding organizational, time management, and administrative skills, pay excellent attention to detail and be able to prioritize and multitask. The candidate must possess excellent telephone, writing, and proofreading skills, and enjoy working in a team environment. The candidate must be self-motivated, able to meet deadlines, and ensure that other timelines and deadlines are met. The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
