SKILL SET

The successful applicant will be computer literate with experience of working in the Finance function of professional service firms. Experience of law firm accounting requirements is desirable but not essential.

Candidates should ideally have:

  • experience working in the finance department of a law firm;
  • an understanding of bookkeeping;
  • the ability to work under pressure;
  • strong administration and organisational skills;
  • the ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the firm; the ability to work calmly under pressure; and
  • excellent attention to detail.

Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate that they are:

  • numerate;
  • professional, self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision;
  • able to work in a busy, professional environment;
  • proactive in their approach;
  • willing to learn the rules and procedures that direct the work of legal cashiering; and
  • a team player who can motivate and work alongside others.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

This is a varied role covering several aspects of the day to day running of a busy law firm. The cashiering function has introduced a number of new systems to improve the efficiency of their processes but further efficiencies are sought. An experienced cashier is sought to work alongside the Head of Cashiering to help to identify areas that can be rationalised. The role includes:

  • processing payments including CHAPS/BACS payments;
  • matching and processing receipts;
  • checking and processing disbursement payments;
  • checking and processing expense claims;
  • preparation of bank reconciliation statements;
  • processing transactions on bank accounts;
  • monitoring residual client balances
  • checking supplier statement
  • general administrative functions.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Finance, Head of Cashiering or other areas within the Finance function.
