Legal Counsel Business lending
Legal ING Belgium in Brussels is seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious, and pragmatic lawyer to join the Wholesale & Business Legal Support team, a team of 9 highly skilled company lawyers.
The team
The team’s supported deal flow comprises a wide variety of legal questions related to lending transactions with ING Belgium’s professional clients (ranging from small self-employed and SME’s to international corporate groups).
Our expertise includes among others:
- Loan agreements (bilateral, club deal and syndicated)
- Specialized lending such as acquisition finance, real estate finance, factoring, stock finance, trade finance (bank guarantees, L/C,…), institutional client lending (government support + public tenders),…
- Security agreements (mortgage, pledge, parent and other guarantees, retention of title,…)
- Company law
- Cash management (domestic)
Roles and responsibilities
You will support your business line by a.o.:
- Advising on complex contracts and structures in various domains concerning business lending, such as trade finance (bank guarantees, letters of credit, standby letters of credit, documentary collection,…), real estate finance, public aid and public procurement.
- Developing and maintaining loan and security documentation
- Drafting divers contract templates
- Having regular contacts both with a wide range of internal clients (front office, back office, credit deciders, credit risk management, compliance, credit restructuring, recovery, compliance,…) as well as with external parties (e.g. lawyers, notaries, bank lawyers of other Belgian banks, government authorities,…)
- Managing legal claims, sometimes in corporation with external legal counsels
- Keeping track of and informing our internal clients of developments in legislation, regulations, jurisprudence and best practices
- Advising on the implementation of internal policies and instructions
- Participating in working groups both within ING (Group) as within external organizations (e.g. Febelfin,…)
- Identifying and managing legal risks
Desired Skills & Experience
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Master degree in Belgian Law
- Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver high quality work in a straightforward, easily understandable and straight to the point way
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to deliver high-quality work under deadlines
- Fluent Dutch, French and English, written and spoken
