Description:

WHO YOU ARE

Are you a commercial and IP lawyer who wants to work as part of Ingka Group Legal and Governance, part of Ingka Group, the biggest IKEA franchisee accounting for more than 90% of IKEA sales globally? Do you want to help us bring IKEA to the lives of the many people in more than 30 countries around the world in store and online? If so, and you have a strong IP background and are excited about working in the development and innovation sphere, then this role could be perfect for you.
The role is based in Malmö and reports into Steven Whyte, one of our Legal Counsel Managers. You would be working with his growing team which also supports Growth and Marketing, Strategy, Development & Innovation (SD&I), certain procurement categories as well as Group Digital and whatever else comes our way!

We’re looking for a qualified lawyer who (ideally):

  • has experience of working with innovative tech businesses;
  • has experience in drafting, negotiating and interpreting a broad range of commercial agreements;
  • is highly organised with the ability to manage simultaneous projects, prioritise and manage work consistent with Ingka Group’s business objectives and requirements;
  • has solid experience of working with and advising on copyright and trade mark matters (patent experience (or at least in securing and managing specialist patent advice) would be a big advantage too);
  • has helped develop and shape a forward-thinking IP strategy;
  • has experience of advising on marketing and media campaigns;
  • has solid legal qualifications and experience;
  • is fluent in English – you must be able to write and negotiate contracts in English (it’s our business language);
  • is a strong communicator and negotiator and has the ability to work with and influence management;
  • is approachable and adaptable to ensure good interaction and collaboration as we are an international, diverse and inclusive business with people from all walks of life and backgrounds;
  • is proactive and an all-rounder, able to take instructions and support others as well as working both independently and in close co-operation with co-workers around the world;
  • resonates with IKEA values; and
  • wants to work for a leading, global brand that is excited about the future and all the opportunities that lie ahead.

Responsibilities:

As Legal Counsel – Commercial and IP, you’ll be part of a team of eight that supports our global businesses, and our ambitious (and busy!) stakeholders as we strive to reach more customers and become even more digital and accessible for our customers and co-workers.
This role will have a focus on supporting and providing commercial and IP advice to our development and innovation teams across Ingka (IKEA Retail, Ingka Centres and Ingka Investments), providing marketing and advertising advice to our Growth and Marketing and Comms teams, as well as helping develop and shape our IP strategy, and supporting on wider procurement matters.

You will:

  • advise on the development and deployment of new tech, customer and co-worker experiences and initiatives, and our omnichannel and digital offerings;
  • advise on and coordinate global legal advice media and marketing campaigns,
  • review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including master services agreements, development agreements etc.;
  • create and develop template agreements to ensure we can work at speed but with the appropriate protections;
  • provide IP advice and support to the Group Legal and Governance function and to the business;
  • keep track of emerging trends, technologies, regulations, and industry practices in the digital, development and innovation space to identify how these can be deployed to competitive advantage;
  • advise on general commercial and legal matters;
  • create and deliver appropriate training to empower co-workers with a degree of legal knowledge to enable them to identify legal and commercial risks;
  • find commercially minded solutions to potential legal issues and problems; and
  • always looking to see where you can add value!

Ingka has an entrepreneurial spirit and is fast paced, with a million things going on at once, so the role requires flexibility, agility and the ability to prioritise (and re-prioritise!) but “tillsammans” (Swedish for togetherness) is key and makes Ingka a highly collaborative, supportive and positive place to work.
