Job Description:
Dow Jones is seeking an experienced commercial and information technology lawyer with background in information services transactions, commercial contracting, privacy and regulatory compliance, preferably in the Tech or Media industry. You will be responsible for legal matters arising in Continental Europe, Middle East & Africa and the United Kingdom (“EMEA”), together with specific regional and global projects.
You will oversee a broad variety of legal work including commercial and transactional work in support of regional business centers, advising business leaders on legal and commercial issues associated with Dow Jones B2B products. The role involves providing professional, timely, cost-effective, practical legal advice and support, managing risks while facilitating commercial goals.
In this position you will support various departments to make sure our business activities comply with relevant policies and regulations.
*SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:*
- Qualified lawyer with a license to practice in England and Wales
- Experience with and good knowledge of commercial and intellectual property law together with a broad understanding of general legal issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail. Fluency in spoken and written in English and French is required
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and exercise good judgment in setting priorities.
- High level of initiative and self-motivation, with an ability to work in a collaborative and congenial team environment or independently.
- Ability to work with clients from varying disciplines and geographic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to discuss issues with or present to high-level executives and decision makers.
- Superior work ethic and dedication to ethics and professional responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for legal matters arising in the EMEA region, including but not limited to advising Sales in relation to negotiation and structure of sales transactions, and advising relevant personnel in relation to negotiation and structure of relationships with information providers, vendors, consultants, and distributors;
- Review and negotiate inbound software development agreements, consulting agreements, and maintenance agreements;
- Participate in activities, such as revising and updating contract templates, conducting training sessions for the B2B sales team in EMEA, sharing knowledge of legal and commercial policy changes both to legal and business colleagues;
- Participate in frequent but ad hoc projects which may be region specific or global in nature; and
- Maintain updated knowledge of legal and regulatory developments notably around GenAI and privacy laws that are relevant to Dow Jones.
