POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel (Labour and Employment) will play a pivotal role in managing and providing strategic guidance on complex labour and employee relations matters. This position is essential in shaping effective strategies, resolving escalated issues, and building positive, collaborative relationships with labour unions and employees. This role demands a strong understanding of labour relations, including expertise in collective bargaining agreements, arbitrations, and mediations. Acting as a trusted advisor and project manager, the Legal Counsel will ensure that Flair delivers proactive, knowledgeable support in these critical areas while contributing to the company’s most important initiatives. The role is based in Vancouver, BC, Calgary, AB, or Edmonton, AB, with occasional travel required. Some evening and weekend work may also be necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

- Education:
- Law degree from an accredited law school.
- Member of the Bar for at least 7-10 years in one of the Canadian provinces or territories
- Experience:
- A minimum of 7-10 years of labour and employment practice in a law firm or large corporate environment, with a successful track record of providing legal advice on a broad range of issues
- Preferred experience in the aviation industry
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills in grievance arbitration, labour board proceedings, and employment-related litigation
- Proven expertise in collective bargaining and effectively managing unionized work environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Competencies:
- Leading as a Flair teammate by demonstrating collaborative behavior and modeling the company’s values in all interactions
- Maintaining diverse relationships with peers and stakeholders to foster effective communication and collaboration
- Delivering results with impact by setting clear goals, prioritizing tasks effectively, and continuously striving for improvement in performance and outcomes
- Requirements:
- Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction
