About the Role
As a Legal Counsel focused on Patents, Raw Materials, and Innovation, you will act as a strategic partner across multiple teams to protect and enhance lululemon’s intellectual property. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and proactive legal strategies, contributing to the company’s growth by securing its future through effective IP management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Strategic Legal Guidance: Support business teams by delivering balanced, practical legal advice, particularly in the areas of intellectual property, patent law, and litigation. Proactively lead strategic opportunity conversations related to patent landscape and portfolio.
- Collaborate and Educate: Work closely with Raw Materials Innovation and Product Research and Innovation teams, offering creative solutions to drive business goals while educating partners on IP matters.
- Draft and Manage Patents: Independently draft patents and coordinate with external counsel as needed, ensuring the protection of innovations in raw materials and product development.
- Innovation and Registration Program Management: Oversee the innovation identification and registration program for raw materials and product innovation.
- Contractual and Commercial Support: Offer guidance on contract matters, facilitating third-party negotiations with innovation partners and ensuring commercial support delivery.
- Risk Management and Policy Development: Design and implement patent clearance programs, landscape mapping, risk tracking, and IP policies to support innovation initiatives.
- Conduct patent risk analysis and advise on related risks.
- Develop and refine clearance processes, policies, and patent protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: LL.B. or J.D.; Member of the Bar in at least one U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction. Registered Patent Agent or Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years practicing law, preferably with experience in a law firm or in-house legal department focused on patents, commercial innovation, and raw materials.
- Specific Skills: Expertise in patent law and commercial agreements, with knowledge in areas like raw materials, apparel, or chemistry. Experience in innovation management is an asset.

Compensation and Benefits Package
lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $128,900 - $169,200 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
