Responsibilities:
THIS IS A HYBRID ROLE BASED IN OUR GLOUCESTER OFFICE, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE.
As part of Destination Sport Group (“DSG”), Mike Burton create and deliver major brand, customer and revenue focused ticketing and travel programmes around the globe, working in direct partnership with organisations that include the British & Irish Lions and England Rugby.
Due to exciting growth, we are looking for a new Legal Counsel to support DSG’s Managing Director of Legal & Technology and the legal team in providing general counsel support to the DSG Group.
NO TWO DAYS ARE THE SAME IN THIS EXCITING ROLE BUT ON A TYPICAL DAY YOU WILL:
- Support the Managing Director of Legal & Technology, in addition to working alongside a paralegal, on all legal issues for the DSG Group
- Assist the Managing Director of Legal & Technology with implementing systems and processes to establish a foundation for a group legal function
- Assist with legal input into material agreements for DSG
- Be the main point of contact for all material legal issues in The Mike Burton Group including:
- Service procurement
- Commercial/rights agreements
- Insurance
- Infringement programmes
- Risk & governance
- Potential opportunity to mentor and supervise as the team develops
- Work closely with the business, up to exec level, advising on a range of legal matters
- Have the opportunity to assist on major events both domestically & internationally
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Have qualifications as a solicitor or legal executive, ideally with a minimum of NQ-2 years PQE (in-house or private practice) with experience or non-qualified paralegal/contract negotiator/contract manager with at least 1-2 years’ experience of negotiating and drafting a wide range of contracts directly with customers, suppliers and other parties.
- Have experience in reviewing and drafting commercial contracts to a high standard appropriate for the context, areas of experience which are desirable are intellectual property, technology, sports, travel and data protection.
- Have experience in other relevant legal areas including regulation, litigation and employment would be advantageous.
- Be confident and comfortable providing legal advice and support.
- Be self-motivated and proactive, with a “can do” approach and a high level of attention to detail, initiative and persistence.
- Have a pragmatic, commercial approach when providing advice to stakeholders
- Have outstanding organisational skills with proven ability to manage time and prioritise tasks to deliver when working under pressure.
- Have an excellent attitude and behaviours.
- Possess strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential.
- Have a strong working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Be accurate and flexible, can work independently with minimal to no supervision.
- Be a team player with a track record of building strong, effective working relationships.
