Description:
LEGAL OPERATIONS LEAD
Contract of indefinite time, full time, Brussels
Your role & work environment
Your role as Legal Operations Lead in the Legal department of ING Belgium is twofold.
On the one hand, you drive operational excellence within the department: you bring a fresh look on the way of working of Legal and its interactions with its main stakeholders. In close collaboration with your legal colleagues, you define and implement smoother, more efficient and effective processes, and you help your colleagues to implement the changes. This helps the members of the legal team to focus on their core legal tasks: supporting the business of ING Belgium with added value legal support.
On the other hand, you drive projects of or for the Legal department. Whether inspired by regulatory changes, organisational requirements or operational imperatives, Legal is confronted with plenty of challenges, which require the collaboration and input from many colleagues, but also the helicopter view and steering role of a project manager. It will be up to the Legal Operations Lead to organise the project, prioritise to-dos, nudge or chase stakeholders to participate, …
As Legal Operations Lead, you will be part of the Legal Procurement, IT and Insurable Risks team, whose responsibilities also include legal operational excellence and support. You will report to the Head of Legal PIIR. This team is part of ING Belgium’s Legal Department.
Your key responsibilities
You identify, document and review existing business processes within the scope of work of Legal and implement innovation processes to generate new ideas and ensure continuous improvement in these processes. You bring strategic value by making sure the legal function stays efficient, relevant and futureproof, thanks to clear business processes and relevant tech tooling.
You orchestrate simple and complex change initiatives, within a specific domain of Legal or involving the whole Legal department or even the interaction with our key stakeholders.
You plan and manage the delivery of these projects, using appropriate project management methodology to give assurance that intended outcomes are achieved.
You use your legal background and your knowledge of the legal function to recognise and understand the intricacies of operations and projects, ensure these are top of mind for all contributors and stakeholders and streamline the interaction between the legal function and the rest of the organisation.
You manage your stakeholders, within or outside the Legal department, and ensure activities are documented and reported where appropriate.
We look for
A colleague with a talent for taking it on and making it happen, enthusiasm for helping others to be successful and a knack for always being a step ahead. In other words, you strive to bring fresh ideas to life and embrace challenges in a fast changing and complex environment. You love to challenge the status quo and are eager to propose creative solutions to problems.
As a Legal Operations Lead, you also have/are :
- a clear forward looking vision, and in-depth knowledge about the role and functioning of the legal function in a financial institution
- knowledgeable on financial management, vendor management, matter/knowledge management, operations and HR, technology management, legal data analytics
- excellent planning, analytical, researching, drafting and negotiation skills
- strong interpersonal and communication skills and you are a real team player
- solution oriented, creative, courageous, with a real can-do mentality
- energized, open minded, willing to learn and stress resistant
- a master degree: a degree in law and/or economics would be an asset, but more important is a demonstrable legal background and/or interest
- experience and interest in IT and technology, but also in process flows and translation of legal requirements into operational processes
- active, passive and written knowledge of Dutch, English and French
We offer you
A clear purpose, a unique offer and a range of flexible compensation and other benefits:
- Personal growth & challenging work with endless opportunities to realise your ambitions

- A progressive and agile way of working, where new ideas are valued ahead of convention
- Work closely with inspiring, supportive and engaged colleagues and stakeholders in an international environment
- Join a learning and development environment with an emphasis on knowledge sharing and training.
Furthermore, you can count on a range of opportunities to invest in your personal and professional growth, in close collaboration with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, and with continued interaction within the Legal Department.
We work on challenging projects allowing you to practice your talents and further develop your skills.
