DESCRIPTION

Interviews for successful candidates will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024
Under direct supervision, performs routine clerical duties involved in the sorting and shelving of library books and materials; and performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Alphabetic, and numeric and subject systems for classifying and organizing library materials.
  • General functions and operations of a library.
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
  • English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Principles, practices, and techniques of effectively dealing with the public and public relations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be
Equivalent to the completion of tenth (10th) grade. No experience required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Sorts books and related materials according to alphabetical, numerical, and categorical systems; collects, stacks, shelves, and reshelves library materials.
  • Spot checks books and materials for needed repair, identifies worn or damaged items for withdrawal/replacement decisions.
  • Provides basic assistance to patron’s requests; answers non-reference questions; refers patrons to appropriate library staff for assistance.
  • Assists in maintaining neat, safe, clean work and public areas.
  • Lifts and transports boxes of books and other library materials and gathers and delivers books from one library area to another.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
