The West Vancouver Memorial Library has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Library Assistant III. This position will have a focus on the library’s physical collection and perform a variety of collections support, clerical work, and public service functions in the Circulation Department.
The position will be responsible for:
- Overseeing Circulation services and tasks related to collection maintenance and organization,
- Developing and updating operation procedures, instructions, and training,
- Editing records with incorrect statuses, material codes, locations, holdings or other updates,
- Providing supervision to staff assigned to collections tasks,
- Teaching new staff and volunteers collections procedures,
- Assisting with special projects and ongoing assignments involving entering and updating patron records, and other functions of the automated system,
- Assisting the public with registration, information, and check-in and check-out of materials;
- Other related duties as required.
The successful candidate will possess: completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent); considerable knowledge of circulation and collections techniques, procedures, and operations; experience developing clerical procedures; familiarity of complex level Sierra functions; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency, skill and a positive orientation towards technology; solid organizational and customer service skills, good manual dexterity. This position is ideally suited to someone who is self-motivated, and able to organize tasks and projects with minimal supervision, who likes working with people of all ages, who is adaptable and can multi-task. Previous experience as a Library Assistant II is preferred.
The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable vulnerable sector police information check.
