Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Library Assistant is a key front-line member of the library team. This role involves helping students and faculty locate resources, processing new materials, sorting and shelving books, assisting with the training and supervision of student employees, and providing general administrative support for the library as needed.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and understanding for effectively engaging with adult learners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and possess excellent time management skills is required.
  • Library experience is preferred, but on-the-job training will be provided

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in a way that supports the team concept and aligns with the University’s mission and philosophy.
  • Register new users, catalog inventory, and process new library materials.
  • Assist patrons, faculty, and students in searching the online databases
  • Sort, organize, and shelve books.
  • Assist with generating and processing shelf reports in ALMA and managing interlibrary loans in OCLC.
  • Maintain records of periodicals and journals.
  • Help train and supervise work-study students.
  • Assist with preparing book displays.
  • Support operations at the coffee bar and help with popcorn during events and finals week.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
