Description:
Library Clerk (C) John Mahood P.S. Educational Services Applicants will be considered in the following order: 1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees. 2) Qualified probationary, temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees. 3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units) Reporting to the Principal, and following the “Best Practices and Guidelines” related to library circulation and collection maintenance as outlined by ITS Library and Resource Services, this position is responsible for performing clerical duties in the elementary school library.
The library clerk will play an important role in the school in encouraging the love of reading and providing access to resources for learning, and promoting use of resources in print and digital formats. The successful applicant for this Educational Support Staff position Level C will work 11 hours per week, 10 months per year, effective November 1, 2024. Hours of Work: TBD Responsibilities Charging, discharging, shelving and repairing loaned materials; Assisting staff and students in the use of the library and locating resources using the integrated library system; Handling overdues, statistical records and correspondence; Filing and processing new materials, Ministry software, etc; and Monitoring library automation hardware and audiovisual equipment and accessories. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Secondary School graduation diploma is required; At least one years experience in the clerical field required, preferably in a library; THR Library Clerks: The Elementary School Library Training, Insignia ILS circulation basics permissions, and experience is required ; Enhanced library working knowledge through completion of the following workshops is preferred : Insignia ILS: Beyond the Basics, Elementary School Library Fundamentals, Circulation Management, Search & Discover, Online Library Support, New School Year Start Up, and End of Year Library Checklist; Well-developed keyboarding skills; Ability to learn new software applications and adapt to the ever-changing nature of school libraries; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and Ability to perform the physical demands of the job including but not necessarily limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulder level, standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.
