Responsibilities:

As a Library Technician at Canada’s National Ballet School, you will be a vital member of our Academic team. Reporting to the Academic Principal, you will ensure the effective organization and operation of library services for both students and staff. Your role will involve the maintenance and operation of the library. This includes the development and implementation of policies regarding library collection and operations, adhering to a budget as established by the Academic Principal, determining the direction of the library and the type of material to be retained, ensuring the integrity and security of library materials, evaluating and selecting appropriate library materials, managing book donations and ensuring that the collection remains well-organized. With strong organizational skills and a passion for promoting learning, you will help maintain a vibrant library environment for Grade 6-12 students and adult ballet students at NBS that supports academic success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Academic staff and students with support for library services at the School (e.g. book exchange, shelving books, maintaining meeting spaces)
  • Maintain the catalogue, maintain non-fiction catalogue using DDC23 and library of congress subject headings, orders library resources, labels and processes new acquisitions.
  • Maintain security of library materials by administering book return policy, enforcing measures required to ensure materials are kept in good condition.
  • Create an inviting environment that generates an interest in and encourages students and staff to use the library.
  • Weed books and resources as needed
  • Manage book donations
  • Collection development in accordance to NBS’ strategic plan as well as staff and student needs.
  • Acquire, understand and administer e-resources and e-subscriptions, such as a video library and journal databases at both grade 6-12 student level and adult level and communicate with vendors for the acquisition of new library resources.
  • Promote reading culture at NBS.
  • Supervise students and classes as needed.
