Description:

Applications are invited for the position of Library Technician – Reference & Circulation located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus Library & Learning Commons. The starting hourly rate is $28.78/hour (Pay Band E-$28.78/hour to $33.37) for a 35-hour workweek. Additional hours may be required as necessary. This is an Appendix D, temporary position as per Article 17.3.1 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to commence in October 2024 and will conclude in December 2024. It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties.
Reporting to the Director, Library and Learning Commons (LLC), the Library Technician- Reference & Circulation provides reference and circulation services to students, faculty, staff and community members. The incumbent will provide assistance with copyright record keeping, marketing, and event planning and promotion.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two-year Library Technician diploma.
- Minimum of two years’ experience providing public services in a busy library environment.
- Reference (online) and research experience using multiple electronic and print resources (academic library experience preferred).
- Aptitude for troubleshooting media equipment or computer software/hardware, an asset.

Responsibilities:
- Provides in-depth reference services by locating and organizing information to meet specific informational requirements.
- Assists students and faculty to evaluate and maximize academic print, media and online resources.
- Guides students in the process of developing research skills and strategies and evaluation search results.
- Circulates library materials in all formats, print, media and equipment.
- Requires knowledge of circulation policies and item types, automated circulation system functionality, operation of audio-visual equipment.
- Assists Library Technicians responsible for marketing, and event planning and promotions as needed and copyright record keeping to track copyright permissions.
- Enters data, helps with signage & materials preparation, social media, support at events, etc.
- Provides support in other Library and Learning Commons functional areas as required.
