Morgan Construction Management (MCM) provides exceptional consulting services to our clients in various markets that comprise of government, transportation, educational and religious institutions, housing and commercial. Since 2011, MCM serves its clients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Washington DC, and Maryland. MCM manages all phases of projects from programming to implementation and from pre-construction to post construction.
JOB OVERVIEW
MCM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer licensed in Pennsylvania with experience working in the school buildings and facilities’ construction industry. Primarily, the position will involve projects at existing educational buildings and associated support facilities, as well as some site work. The ideal candidate will provide support to the Capital Improvement Program Team at The School District of Philadelphia. This position reports directly to the Design Manager.
SKILLS
- Knowledge of AutoCAD software for technical drawings.
- Knowledge of building systems such as boilers/chillers, plumbing.
- Ability to generate and issue RFPs to 3rd party design firms.
- Ability to perform mechanical design calculations and standard computations, such as building heating and cooling.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Experience with the Building Permit process in the City of Philadelphia.
- Ability to write technical documents for those experienced in the construction industry as well as to communicate technical concepts to professionals and decision makers outside of the industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and Adobe Suite.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer in Pennsylvania.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in school buildings and facilities’ design, construction and assessment.
- Knowledge of Building Codes (City of Philadelphia, IBC) and IMC.
- Experience with Building Permit Process in the City of Philadelphia.

Responsibilities:
DUTIES
Typical projects will include boiler/chiller plant replacement, fire alarm systems, electrical service, re-lighting, emergency generator and elevator replacements, and new HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems for classroom modifications, new building systems for new construction of schools and additions.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Generate and advertise RFPs for the selection of 3rd party engineer firms.
- Review and approval proposals from 3rd party engineer firms.
- Manage contracts and approve invoices of engineer firms.
- Generate scope determination reports and equipment specifications for Capital Improvement Projects to include surveys of mechanical systems, assessments of equipment and building conditions. and inspections.
- Contribute to a variety of HVAC, plumbing, process piping and fire protection and data/telecommunication system design projects.
- Technical review and approval of design development plans and construction documents.
- Prepare and advertise IFBs and provide design support to the Capital Improvement Project Team during bid and construction phases.
- Engage with the Philadelphia L&I department and other external agencies.
- Work with other internal School District departments (Environmental, Facilities & Maintenance and Space Planning).
- Work with multi-discipline staff in designing and implementing mechanical systems in new or existing school buildings.
- Follow building design and energy codes and standards.
