How you make a difference:
The Float Nurse is a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN or LVN) responsible for providing patient care in a Correctional Setting by assisting in the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They work under the supervision of RN(s) and provide patient education and activities within their demonstrated competencies. The Float Nurse is responsible for following the Nursing Practice Act and working collaboratively with other healthcare providers to ensure high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in patient assessment and planning of individual treatment programs while consulting with RNs and other staff as appropriate in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Implements individualized treatment programs under the supervision of the Health Care Practitioner, including administering medications and obtaining diagnostic tests.
- Responds to emergencies and implements proper safety techniques and procedures.
- Assists the Health Care Practitioner in medical or minor surgical procedures and implements nutrition and therapeutic diet plans.
- Documents nursing encounters and communicates information to appropriate personnel as required by policy and procedure.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Experience
- One (1) or more years clinical experience required
- One (1) or more years correctional healthcare experience preferred
- Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time to sites within the designated region
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) within the states of practice
- Current CPR certification
