    Detailed Overview:
    Performs practical nursing duties such as assessing, plans, implementing, evaluating and documenting care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care and other outpatient procedures; assists with the admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation for patients undergoing oscopy, in accordance with established standards and protocols.
    The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents practical nursing care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care and other outpatient procedures/consultations during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Assists with admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation duties for patients undergoing oscopy, in accordance with established standards and protocols.
  • Performs practical nursing duties during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Observes and monitors the patient’s conditions during the procedures/consultations to ensure their safety and comfort; provides patient condition information and feedback to the supervisor and/or physician.
  • Documents the observations into the patient’s record including treatment and other patient care information during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff, students and other members of the health care team by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures and general department procedures.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and assisting in maintaining standardized records.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
One (1) year recent relevant clinical experience in minor surgical procedures or other outpatient procedures and completion of relevant course work and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current basic cardiac life support certification.
