Applications are invited for a one-year, limited-term position in The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching). The appointment start date is January 1, 2025. The Rural and Indigenous Community Route Academic Liaison (RICR AL) is a coordinator, educator, facilitator, mentor, and a team player within the Faculty of Nursing. The RICR academic liaison is a connector between Nursing Instructors (NI) and Instructor of Record (IOR) and Nursing Practice Course Coordinator. The position works closely with the clinical placement team in identifying appropriate rural clinical placements, and the program evaluator in developing and responding to quality improvement assessments. RICR academic liaison fosters a collaborative environment and acts as a liaison between the academic faculty and the clinical staff to ensure seamless integration of the theoretical and practice learning in the Rural and Indigenous community sites. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
- A master’s degree is preferred
- Appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) require evidence of successful undergraduate teaching abilities. The duties of an Assistant Professor go beyond the scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and content in the discipline
APPLIED EXPERIENCE:
- Current practice experience related to rural focus
- Broad experience across a variety of acute and community care areas
- Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students
- Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks for assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
ENHANCED ABILITIES:
- Application of adult teaching/learning principles
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills with a proven ability to guide teams to foster positive relationships and achieve strategic initiatives
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are required
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, handle complex issues and multi-task is essential
- A positive and professional demeanor, with the ability to embrace change in a dynamic environment
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, creative, and innovative
- Ability to work in a confidential setting and demonstrate good judgment in dealing with sensitive or problem situations
- Demonstrated understanding of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Nursing Education Program Approval Board (NEPAC) systems and practices Experience working with University of Calgary IT platforms inclusive of D2L and Office365
