Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The LIMS Administrator is responsible for performing workflow review, establishing business requirements, implementing solutions, and maintaining a LIMS in Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD).
The role establishes a close partnership with the AstraZeneca scientists and leaders within BPD to develop an in-depth understanding of business priorities and early insight into changing needs to help inform and shape demand related to the LIMS. The role will be a collaborative and productive team member that collects, analyzes, and documents business requirements and translates those into fit-for-purpose solutions with functional and non-functional specifications.
The individual is responsible for the overall procurement, development, validation, integration, modification, operation, and maintenance of the LIMS database along with the System Owner and business partners. The individual is a key contributor in developing system design specifications to ensure the security and user requirements are documented, tested, implemented, and supported, as well as aligning with the overall business strategy. They will coordinate and manage cross-functional project teams that focus on delivering solutions based on proposed timelines which have been agreed upon by the Business Stakeholders. The role will also contribute to other project deliverables such as training, testing, and documentation.
The successful candidate will stay current with LIMS-related technologies and will bring innovative ideas to the scientific groups for solving challenging problems. They will continually drive for an improved overall end user experience and advocate for the R&D scientists while partnering with the larger IT community and customers.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The LIMS Administrator will be responsible for how LIMS solutions feel and work in the hands of the users. Demonstrated technical proficiency in LIMS administration and configuration is required. Prior knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and past hands-on experience at least within one biopharmaceutical R&D area is preferred. Experience with LabWare LIMS and ELN is required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree required in Computer Science, Bio/Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Certification in Lean Six-Sigma and/or project management practices is a plus.
- BS degree with 4-6 years related experience or MS degree with 2-4 years experience.
- Minimum of 5 years LIMS administration experience
- ELN experience preferred
- LIMS configuration background.
- Knowledge of database design, function, and querying using SQL.
- Hands-on laboratory experience in some capacity (analytical methods, process development, technology transfer, formulation development).
Responsibilities:
- Perform moderate to complex configuration within the LIMS environment
- Develop, configure, and test new LIMS functionality to meet customer needs
- Collaborate globally with LIMS end users to identify gaps and establish business requirements for system enhancements
- Create and maintain database changes to ensure business continuity
- Author and execute test scripts related to LIMS changes and enhancements
- Maintain and enhance capacity and capability of existing LIMS functionality
- Facilitate interactions between end users and BPD Informatics group to meet needs that LIMS cannot fulfill
- Identify industry and vendor trends and contribute to strategic development of the LIMS
- Investigate and troubleshoot end-user and system issues
- Create and maintain LIMS user accounts
- Author SOPs, work instructions, training materials, and other LIMS documents
- Reviewing existing informatics systems and providing improvement ideas, suggestions or planning with benefit/effort estimations.
- Facilitating informatics improvement ideas into the general work processes of end-user groups.
- Entering, trending, analyzing data collected from workflows and systems.
- Identifying industry and vendor trends and contributing to strategic development.
