For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness. Our Clinics are community-based which offer a professional and welcoming environment for both clients and staff. The Clinics provide psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological therapy, as well as individual, group, family therapy, crisis intervention, medication management, case management and collateral sessions. Our staff members follow an approach to health care that emphasizes wellness, recovery, trauma-informed care, and physical-behavioral health integration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Advanced oral and written skills in multiple (minimum of two) languages required, with the ability to read and write in both languages. Bilingual required, Spanish and English strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook), with the ability to learn and efficiently use various translation/interpretation programs and resources (e.g., CyraCom)
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with people with behavioral health conditions

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with the care team to assure the effective delivery of interpreting and translation services that meet client and family’s needs
  • Translates written documents as needed and provides sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance client and family’s comprehension of integrated treatment services and supports (when language spoken aligns with the client/family)
  • Educates team members about how to utilize organizational supported technologies and resources (e.g., CyraCom) to facilitate language access and interpreting, through individual and group trainings
  • Works proactively with the multidisciplinary team to determine when and where interpreting services will be necessary and coordinates interpreting services on behalf of clients, families, and staff based on available resources
  • Serves as a language access bridge to clients and families with LEP, working to understand their language needs and identifying and suggesting ways to improve CCNS’ communication with individuals and communities who speak languages other than English
  • Tracks data metrics related to the need for/use of interpretation and translation services across CCNS’ clinics, identifying where there are gaps that need to be filled in order to promote full access for individuals with linguistic needs
  • Recommends best practices to communicate effectively with and engage individuals who speak languages other than English in needed services and supports
  • Attends offsite outreach events (e.g., health fairs) to provide multi-lingual education to community members about CCNS’ services and supports
  • Maintains effective lines of communication with all staff and stakeholder
