Responsibilities:

YOUR ROLE

The primary objective of the role is to lead the VIC LMM Underwriters in achieving high-quality, sustainable, and profitable new business for the segment. This entails providing extensive technical support and expertise. To optimise the effectiveness of the LMM underwriters, the role collaborates closely with the respective VIC Deputy Property and Casualty Managers, ensuring that all internal and external underwriting and distribution requirements are met. Additionally, the role aims to extract maximum performance from the underwriters and foster a culture centered around customer centricity. Collaboration across the LMM team, branches, and Product Management is pivotal in identifying and addressing any obstacles that may impede overall performance targets.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriting Profit

  • Achievement of the VIC Property and Casualty rate and Loss ratio targets
  • Developing and implementing the VIC new business plan
  • Setting a strategy for capitalising on LMM new business and cross sell market opportunities.
  • Increase new business penetration in target industry segments
  • Act as an escalation point for underwriting referrals & underwriting guidance

Premium Growth

  • Meeting growth objectives of the LMM business plan including New Business and Rate targets
  • Underwrite new business in line with current underwriting selection and pricing guidelines & manage referrals within team
  • Achievement of target NSW/VIC LMM growth goals including whole account and target industry growth objectives

Sales & Marketing

  • In conjunction with the Middle Market Manager develop & implement an effective business development & engagement strategy to achieve LMM plan objectives
  • Develop and execute within the team a sales culture where effective sales pipelines are built and prospects driven to conversion, cross sell opportunities are leveraged with other lines of business and new buyer activities leveraged
  • Develop and execute business plans for the LMM segment in accordance with P&C framework
  • Building and maintaining effective long-term relationships with target LMM brokers
  • Oversee effective Broker sales visits & education plans

Staff Development

  • Motivating, managing, developing and retaining quality LMM underwriters
  • Managing staff performance issues
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals with direct reports and overseeing the effective and timely management of this process with segment management
  • Must have attained Senior Underwriter level and appropriate level of underwriting authority
  • Experience in managing Property and / or Casualty Middle Market new business
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve goals
  • Demonstrated maturity to manage an effective outcome to complex customer & staffing issues
  • Proven record of successful underwriting management of a portfolio of Property and / or Casualty business
  • Proven record of successful growth of profitable Property and / or Casualty business.
  • Good profile in the broker market with proven marketing success in developing key broker relationships and achievement of GWP growthExperience in people management and staff development
