Universal Railway Operations is currently seeking Rail/Locomotive Operators to provide rail-related services at terminals located in Cheecham/ Fort McMurray, Alberta.
A Rail/Locomotive Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the rail loading/unloading racks, bulk loading and their associated equipment. They are also responsible for organizing, moving, placing, and securing all rail cars inside the facility. This role reports to the onsite Universal Railway Operations team and the Terminal Operations team.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Safety-focused and detail-oriented.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • Able to commute to the worksite.
  • Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license or higher to drive site vehicles. Transportation is provided to the site.
  • Experience in rail switching and rack loading.

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Wages from $39-41/hr with considerations for prior experience.
  • Camp work with 2 week on / 2 week off rotation (nights/days).
  • Abiding by the rules described in General Operating Instruction (GOI) for Rail Operations and the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Understanding and following corporate initiatives, including applicable corporate Safe Operating Practices, Guidelines, and Policies.
  • Participating in the development of the site’s safety culture.
  • Identifying and reporting mechanical defects on process equipment and mobile equipment (e.g., Pumps, Vessels, Vehicles, Track mobile, Loader).
  • Properly securing rail cars in the load/unload racks and rail yard.
  • Inspecting Rail Cars for safety defects to ensure compliance with Transport Canada and Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations before shipping.
  • Submitting Events (Incidents, Hazards, Near Misses) and participating in incident investigations by reporting items to the Facility Operator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Connecting and disconnecting various types of rail cars, monitoring levels and temperatures and communicating with Plant Process Operators to ensure smooth bulk loading.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Operating the Rail Car Mover/Locomotive and performing daily Rail Car Mover /Locomotive checks (maintaining proper fluid levels and monitoring wear and tear).
  • Maintaining the working conditions of the rail yard throughout all seasons (e.g., blowing switches, cleaning, and greasing switches).
  • Filling out paperwork and reports required for compliance.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting on equipment and processes, seeking assistance when necessary.
  • Completing Monthly Rail Safety Checks.
  • Related Locomotive Engineer experience
  • Ability to follow all rules and procedures as outlined in legislation and company policies
  • Understandable and adhere to the IROR and regulations as prescribed by URO, our client, and service provider
  • Outstanding communication skills. especially over radios
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety knowledge and applicable legislation
