Description:
This is a Fixed Term Post for one year to cover Maternity leave. It is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, enthusiastic and innovative team of general paediatricians within a leading tertiary paediatric centre. The General Paediatrics team at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BWCH) provide secondary level general paediatric services to the children and young people of Birmingham. In addition, we support the care of children with complex health needs, working closely with colleagues from medical and surgical specialties.
You will be part of a team of 14 WTE Consultants (including this post), trainees (including paediatric ST1-8s, general practice and foundation year trainees), clinical fellows and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

- Provide high quality, consultant-led paediatric medical care to children and young people referred from general practitioners and/or other colleagues, in both the acute and outpatient setting
- To take part in the on-call consultant rota for general paediatric medicine at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
- To support specialty colleagues in the management of paediatric medical problems, including child protection issues and the co-ordination of care for children with complex needs when necessary.
- To contribute to advice and guidance services for primary care as required
- To participate in quality improvement initiatives within the general paediatric department
- To facilitate research within the general paediatric department
- To participate in governance activities within the department of general paediatrics including audit, development of clinical guidelines and morbidity / mortality reviews
- To provide educational & clinical supervision for trainees and non-training grade staff
- To undertake medical student teaching.
Responsibilities:
