Applications are invited for a part-time Locum Consultant General Paediatrician based at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, working 6 sessions per week whilst covering maternity leave. A special interest in epilepsy would be welcomed.
The Children’s Hospital has a dual remit for secondary care of the local population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and almost all tertiary services through the South Wales Network. This post comes at an exciting time of expansion and consolidation for all paediatric services in Cardiff, with the UHB having opened of Phase 2 of the Children’s Hospital for Wales in 2015. It has seen re-development and consolidation of all paediatric specialities into a dedicated Children’s Hospital with five theatres, PICU, Medical and Surgical Wards OPD, Radiology and an admission and assessment unit.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to join a team of 12 Consultant General Paediatricians (9.2 WTE and 7.9 WTE on the acute rota), who deliver the full scope of general paediatric care required for the Children’s Hospital which is an integral part of the University Hospital of Wales. We also welcome applications from those who have a special interest e.g. neurology.
Further paediatric outpatient services are provided at University Hospital Llandough and community paediatric services are offered at both Llandough and St David’s Hospital.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
