Description:
Cork University Hospital is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, Cork in Ireland. Its academic partner is University College Cork. It is the only Level 1 Trauma Centre in Ireland. It is a public hospital managed by the South/Southwest Hospital Group, a part of the Health Service Executive.
Cork University Hospital (CUH) is a model 4 tertiary referral centre and University teaching hospital. It has been assigned as Major Trauma Centre. The hospital is a public hospital owned and managed by the Health Service Executive (HSE) and is a member of the South/South West Hospital Group. Cork University Hospital also forms part of the Cork University Hospitals Group (CUHG) which includes Mallow General Hospital and Bantry General Hospital.
CUH is unique in that we have 40 different medical and surgical specialties on the campus. As the tertiary referral centre for the HSE Southern area and the supra regional area of Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny CUH serves a total population of over 1.4 million.
In 2019 CUH had 69982 presentations to our Emergency Department, 222,115 outpatient attendances and discharged 31,769 inpatients.
CUH currently employs 3,488.26 WTE of multiple professions and is the primary teaching hospital for the Faculty of Health and Science at University College Cork.
The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking to appoint a locum Consultant Neurosurgeon with special interest in Vascular and Skull base. This is expected to be a 12-month post. The successful candidate is expected to be an integral member of the Team providing neurosurgery input to the Major Trauma Service. We will also see and treat simple degenerative spine cases.
It is critical that the successful candidate has the enthusiasm to integrate within a busy and thriving neurosurgical department.
Person Specification - Qualifications & Training - Essential
- Entry on specialist register (or entry expected within 6 months)
- Completed training in neurosurgery (CCST or equivalent)
