Description:

This is a Locum Consultant post to work within the obstetrics and gynaecology department and within the multi-disciplinary team. Post holder is expected to start in Nov 2024 for one year Fixed Term locum job for maternity leave cover. The department currently provides 94 hours of resident Consultant cover for the labour ward. It may however be subject to change depending on changing needs of the service and NHS services. The post-holder will be expected to take part equally with other Consultants in such a rota (subject to the required job-plan review). The post holder will also have an involvement in general antenatal care for women when admitted to the hospital and intra partum care.
The department has a commitment to a high level of training for all grades of staff working in maternity and the post-holder will be expected to take part in providing this training. The post-holder will be expected to take the lead in developing services, guidelines and standards for the care of women.
Attendance at the monthly management team meeting and regular Consultant meeting (forming part of the audit morning in the Trust when other non-emergency clinical activity is cancelled) is expected of all Consultants. Involvement with clinical governance activities including undertaking risk management investigations as required is also expected of all Consultants in the department
Together with the other Consultants to provide obstetrics and gynaecology services for women attending King’s College Hospital. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties required for the proper functioning of the department.
Shared responsibility with the other Consultants for providing 24 hour, 7 day a week cover for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-call rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleague’s periods of annual leave and short-term sickness/absence.
Manage women in high risk Obstetrics clinics and One Stop Gynaecology Clinics.
Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
To contribute to the Audit Programme.
To take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Group’s Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with both internal and external agencies.
To conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for Women’s services.
