Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an innovative and passionate Locum Consultant to oversee the older persons’ psychiatric inpatient wards at Longreach House, Redruth. This position is ideal for an experienced psychiatrist specialising in older adults and inpatient care.
Based at Longreach House, Redruth, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in additional development activities within the Trust. The role includes responsibilities for supervising junior doctors and physician associates, as well as undertaking managerial duties.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clinical Management: Oversee the clinical workload within the ward areas, including providing professional supervision to junior medical staff. This may involve assessing competencies under the MMC framework.
  • Education and Training: Support the education and training of junior medical staff to ensure high standards of clinical practice.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of clinical activities.
  • Service Planning: Engage in service and business planning for both hospital and community adult services, and contribute to the broader Mental Health Service planning as needed.
  • Appraisal and Development: Participate in annual appraisals for consultants and in job plan reviews with the Medical Director. These reviews will involve consultation with relevant managers to adapt the role in response to changes in service delivery and modernisation.
  • Management Collaboration: Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services. Share medical management responsibilities with consultant colleagues.
  • Policy Compliance: Adhere to the Trust’s policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial instructions. Actively contribute to the financial management of the service and assist the Chief Medical Officer and other managers in planning and service preparation.
