Job Title: Primary Healthcare Nurse
Employment Type: Locum position (minimum 12 hrs per week, option to scale as agreed)
Remuneration: Hourly rate
Reporting to: Clinical Network Lead
Location: Gauteng (hybrid position with some work from our Rosebank office when required)
Start Date: 1 August 2024

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Three or more years of clinical experience.
  • At least two years of primary healthcare experience.
  • Strong IT and virtual communication skills.
  • Resilience and resourcefulness to deliver on the role successfully.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle ambiguity.

EDUCATION

  • Diploma or degree in nursing and up-to-date SANC registration (prerequisite).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Personal malpractice insurance.
  • Remote work setup with a laptop/desktop, camera, microphone, backup power, strong internet (20 Mbps minimum), and a quiet workspace.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

As a Primary Healthcare (PHC) Nurse at Kena, you will be working in a multidisciplinary team with clinical associates, doctors, and mental health professionals, to deliver primary healthcare services via voice, video, and text on our app. This includes providing medical advice, diagnosing conditions, recommending medications, and managing conditions. Patients needing care beyond the PHC Nurse’s scope are transferred to a doctor or mental health professional immediately within the App and those requiring advanced interventions are referred accordingly.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Providing high-quality advice:

  • Answering questions about medical conditions, medications, or the need for more urgent care.
  • Explaining diagnosis or ongoing care to patients after a new diagnosis or diagnostic results.
  • Assisting patients with everyday clinical concerns by taking a history, reviewing photos or patient results, and doing a virtual examination.

Providing high-quality virtual care:

  • Performing clinical assessments virtually.
  • Diagnosing conditions, providing treatment, and where out of scope, referring to the doctor.
  • Identifying those who may need urgent, face-to-face, or chronic care and referring.
  • Coaching patients on new diagnoses and counselling to improve compliance with chronic care.

Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on our digital platform:

  • Referring for appropriate clinical consultations.
  • Working with doctors or mental health professionals via the platform.
  • Delivering clinical results and meeting cost control goals.
