Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Logistics and Transport Specialist is responsible for organizing and scheduling fuel deliveries to retail locations, bulk plants and cardlocks through independent brokers and 3rd party carriers in an efficient, safe, and cost-effective manner, adhering to industry regulations and insurance guidelines. The responsibilities of this role also include freight payables processing, reviewing carrier and contractor invoices, preparing ancillary and demurrage reports for manager approvals, lift error investigation and resolution and maintaining carrier safety and service metrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispatch broker fleet and schedule loads based on safety, customer service, and load efficiency.
  • Support the execution of the lift direction to ensure weekly and monthly haulage volumes and supply nominations are met.
  • Support the team during supply shortages to ensure optimal lifting and distribution of all available products. This involves close collaboration with division management to understand business priorities.
  • Coordinate deliveries through overflow carriers as needed.
  • Support the execution of daily and lift point supply arbitrage opportunities.
  • Create, coordinate, communicate, and maintain the broker and their driver schedules.
  • Support the Distribution Team and independent brokers to ensure adherence to Parkland standards, guidelines, terminal online and onsite orientation and training requirements, and maintenance of required certifications (CFA, TDG, WHMIS & ERP).
  • Support the Broker and 3rd party carrier operations to prevent incidents (injuries, near misses, spills, mixes, property damage, etc.), and to minimize Parkland liability in the event of an incident. This includes supporting the incident response activities in close collaboration with Parkland division management and HSE. Conduct periodic site and vehicle inspections and driver observations. Oversee hazard and site risk notices.
  • Maintain and administer the broker and 3rd party carrier freight rate schedules.
  • Administration of the Transportation Module and responsible for ensuring the freight payables are accurately processed in JD Edwards.
  • Support the Broker and 3rd party carrier invoicing process, providing the necessary backup for demurrage and ancillary charges.
  • Support the Distribution Manager by reducing and/or controlling freight costs and equipment cost at a site level by effective comparison of cost alternatives through quote processes.
  • Administer the Dispatch systems setup, and GPS program software. This includes MDM for drivers, equipment, loading badge and site information. Ensure driver, equipment, site constraints and hazards are updated in the Dispatch systems and alerts are set up properly. Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports to ensure safety and service levels are maintained or exceeded and work with the manager and take corrective actions as needed. Administration and oversight of the truck tablets (track, troubleshoot, update, order replacements).
  • Schedule Fleet Maintenance for the Parkland owned equipment, including Trailer inspections, scheduled maintenance according to regulatory standards, measuring, and tracking costs per liter, cost per kilometer and provide recommendations on equipment needs and budgeting. Update internal and external systems with Parkland owned equipment and support the brokers in updating driver certification information.
  • Supporting the FOP and inventory team to reduce errors and manual transactions, including those caused by Parkland Brokers, 3rd party carriers and wasteful internal processes.
  • On call duties as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5-years Industry related experience (Transportation and logistics knowledge).
  • Knowledge of TDG, CFA regulations, emergency response training, WHMIS would be an asset.
  • Understanding of refinery terminal loading processes would be an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Bilingualism would be an asset.
  • College Diploma or University Degree would be an asset.
  • Prior experience working for a transportation or logistics company would be an asset.
  • Proficient use of MS Office and JDE would be an asset.
