Description:
Jealous Fruits is the northernmost large scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all hand packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to our customers worldwide.
Job Purpose
The Compliance Assistant performs a supporting role in identifying processes and programs that ensure that our farm operations and orchards meet regulatory compliance standards. In this role, your primary function will be to support the Compliance coordinator in identifying processes that don’t meet compliance and implementing changes that will resolve any issues.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop a firm understanding of the regulatory requirements.
- Collect water samples from water sources supplying orchards and schedule water sample deliveries to respective laboratories.
- Distribute and post signage to orchards.
- Deliver compliance supplies to orchards.
- Collect compliance specific requests from farm managers and report them to the compliance coordinator, such as Risk Assessments and SOP’s.
- Work with the Farm Team to produce farm specific compliance documentation in order to prepare for audits.
- Aid the compliance coordinator in conducting farm visits and preliminary audit assessments.
- Attend compliance meetings and take minutes.
- Travel between orchards alone or with the Compliance Coordinator.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a post-secondary program or currently enrolled in one of the following: Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Compliance, Microbiology, Agriculture, or any related programs is an asset.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience with Global Gap, Canada Gap, or SMETA is an asset.
- Ability to communicate with farm managers regarding their compliance needs and expectations, present compliance regulation criteria to farm crews in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Ability to organize and relay verbal communications, organize paperwork, keep inventory counts on supplies, keep records of supply distribution, etc.
- Proficiency in Spanish (both spoken and written) is an asset.
- First aid certification is an asset.
- Valid Full Class 5 driver’s license.
Working conditions
- Working hours are Monday to Friday- 40-hour week.
- This is a hybrid position requiring office work and field work.
- Travelling alone to our different farms will be necessary at times.
- The candidate must have the ability to work well with people of varying backgrounds and nationalities.
- Applicants must be available from mid-May until early September.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
