LOGISTICS MANAGER – HIGHWAYS PROJECT
Location: M3, Junction 9 project
Balfour Beatty is seeking a proactive and experienced Logistics Manager to oversee and manage the logistics function for our Highways Production Hub. This role will play a key part in supporting the M3 Junction 9 project and will involve the strategic and daily management of all project logistics operations, including resource supply (aggregates, concrete, plant, haulage, etc.), site facilities management, and project security. The Logistics Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all logistics needs are met in a safe, efficient, and timely manner, contributing to the successful delivery of the project.
What you’ll be doing
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A degree in Supply and Logistics or 5+ years of relevant experience in logistics, construction logistics, or supply chain management.
- Proven experience in leading logistics teams and managing large-scale logistics operations.
- Strong understanding of resource planning and forecasting, with the ability to coordinate the efficient delivery of materials, plant, and labour.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and manage key stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite and the ability to adapt to new digital systems and technologies.
- Strong focus on safety, risk management, and continuous improvement in all logistics operations.
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of resource controllers, store personnel, and security staff, ensuring effective coordination and motivation across all logistics functions.
- Logistics Strategy: Develop and implement the Project Construction Logistics and Security Strategy (CLSS), regularly updating it as required to reflect changing project needs and objectives.
- Resource Coordination: Oversee the timely provision of resources (materials, plant, and equipment) to the construction team, ensuring “just-in-time” delivery to prevent delays.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project disciplines including Operations, HSE, Quality, Design, Planning, and Commercial to ensure that logistics support is aligned with project requirements and goals.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Management: Manage relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure seamless resource supply and resolve any logistical conflicts.
- Digital Logistics: Drive the implementation of a digital approach to logistics management, ensuring the use of digital delivery management systems for tracking and reporting resources.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify and manage logistics-related risks and implement measures to mitigate potential disruptions.
- Safety & Compliance: Lead a culture of safety excellence by maintaining high HSE standards and driving a Zero Harm approach on-site.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement processes to review logistics and security performance, ensuring lessons learned are integrated into future planning.
