We are recruiting for a Knowledge Paralegal to join our M&A Practice Group in London on a 12 month FTC.
Key requirements
- A-level education
- 2:1 degree or equivalent
- LPC or SQE2 completion (essential)
- Excellent writing skills
- Good research and organisational skills
- Excellent communication, professionalism and interpersonal skills
- Hard working, enthusiastic, team player
- High level of initiative and a willingness to learn
- Prior experience of working as a Paralegal or working within a legal corporate department would be an advantage (but is not essential)
- High level of computer literacy
- Proven ability to effectively manage a busy workload and cope under pressur
Responsibilities:
DEPARTMENT PURPOSE
The M&A practice focuses on a variety of sectors and legal product areas, and the nature of the work is broadly based. Much of the work revolves around mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance but there is also a huge variety of corporate and commercial advisory work, as well as areas of specialist regulatory expertise. The practice fosters relationships with many clients, including governments, corporations, private capital investors, investment banks and financial institutions.
ROLE PURPOSE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join the Knowledge team in the London office’s M&A practice at Bishops Square. The Paralegal will have a particular focus on private capital work (including private equity, corporate infrastructure and growth capital). The successful candidate will also support the Knowledge team more generally and work on the construction of smart know-how data bases.
The role requires direct contact and involvement with A&O Shearman’s M&A group (both in London and internationally), therefore excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills are essential along with a high level of professionalism.
Role and responsibilities
- Capturing, organising, distilling, creating and disseminating private capital and other M&A know-how both within the London M&A department and in collaboration with other practice groups and global offices
- Assisting with the creation of smart know-how system databases and platforms
- Collaborating with the Advanced Delivery team to summarise and harness equity capital markets experience and co-ordinate its input into our database system
- Monitoring developments in relation to corporate law and market practice
- Collating information to assist with creating and updating standard form precedents, practice notes and training materials
- Collating data from international deals across our global M&A practice
- Carrying out research into technical legal issues
- Assisting with and responding to know-how related queries from fee-earners across A&O
- Establishing, updating and maintaining the legal content of sector group intranets
- Helping to create materials for internal and client facing training sessions
- Creating content for business development initiatives
- General paralegal duties and support
