COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with M&E design and contracting, ideally within a main contractor.
  • Strong leadership in HSE.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in managing M&E contractors and ensuring quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HNC/Degree in a relevant building services discipline.
  • Membership of a professional institution is preferred.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

An opportunity has arisen for an M&E Manager to join the team at Galliford Try within our Building (London & South East Commercial) Business. This role will be Site based and cover both elements of pre-construction and delivery.
Ideally, you will based in or around the London area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.
As an M&E Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the mechanical and electrical (M&E) elements of construction projects from tender stage through to completion. Your key responsibilities will include tender input, sub-contractor appointment and coordination, health and safety management on-site, and ensuring quality control in all M&E works. You will work closely with both internal teams and external contractors to ensure all M&E systems are installed, commissioned, and handed over in line with contractual requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tender and Sub-Contractor Management:
  • Review M&E information for tenders and select M&E consultants and contractors.
  • Prepare M&E scopes of work and manage the appointment of sub-contractors.
  • Design and Coordination:
  • Manage and review M&E sub-contractor designs, ensuring compliance with regulations and project specifications.
  • Coordinate sub-contractor designs, samples, and mock-ups.
  • Assist with energy strategy and compliance (e.g., BREEAM).
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • Lead HSE efforts on-site, ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Manage risk assessments, site inductions, and safety inspections.
  • Develop and manage site-specific health and safety plans.
  • Sub-Contractor Control:
  • Monitor sub-contractor performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Manage contractual changes, issue site instructions, and conduct progress reviews.
  • Oversee the commissioning and handover of M&E systems, ensuring all work is completed to required standards.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship from sub-contractors, conducting regular inspections.
  • Monitor quality at each stage of installation and ensure compliance with all specifications.
  • Oversee factory and site acceptance testing of major M&E equipment.
  • Commissioning and Handover:
  • Manage the production of O&M manuals and client training as per contract.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities, addressing any defects and ensuring smooth handover.
  • Post-Completion:
  • Handle any M&E operational issues post-completion and arrange seasonal commissioning as needed.
