ABOUT THE PROJECT
Riva is embarking on the third phase of our AI and ML productization program, and we are seeking a Resident with a strong background in AI/ML development to contribute to this project. With existing GenAI capabilities from both OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock already embedded into our applications, this project aims to mature a successful POC and shift toward customer readiness and productization.
Riva is uniquely positioned as a customer data processing middleware provider and seller workflow automation subject matter expert with over a decade of experience delivering solutions for some of the top enterprises in the world, including three of the top five US Banks and five of the Big Five Canadian banks.
As a key member of the team, the ideal candidate will work in partnership with Riva, AWS, and an award-winning generative AI-focused AWS engineering partner. They will help to design and develop new technology that can overlay CRM and sales data with sentiment and inferences available in unstructured sales communications, to unlock valuable insights.
Our goal is to introduce a uniquely valuable offering to the market. This offering will significantly enhance our existing customers’ sales and client management workflows, using the latest techniques and technologies in artificial intelligence and data science, unlocked at scale using the AWS cloud.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERTISE
We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual with solid knowledge of machine learning, demonstrated experience with supervised learning, and experience in applied settings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a graduate level program or higher (M.Sc/Ph.D) in Computing Science, ML or Engineering
- Research or project experience in machine learning and Deep Learning, and Large Language Models
- Proficient in Python programming language and related ML frameworks, libraries and toolkits (e.g. Scikit learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Pandas)
- A positive attitude towards learning and understanding a new applied domain
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous hands-on experience applying machine learning to workforce management
- Previous hands-on experience applying machine learning to real-world data
- Publication record in peer-reviewed academic conferences or relevant journals in machine learning
- Familiarity with cloud computing environments, specifically AWS

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a paid Residency that will be undertaken over a twelve-month period with the potential to be hired by our client afterwards (note: at the discretion of the client). The Resident will be reporting to an Amii Scientist and regularly consult with the Client team to share insights and engage in knowledge transfer activities.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize ML algorithms specifically tailored for Riva’s products. You will contribute to ML models to address challenges in summarization and key information extraction. Your responsibilities include preparing and curating relevant datasets, utilizing commercial and open-source tools to enhance data and ML tasks, and optimizing ML pipelines built on AWS for efficiency, scalability, and real-time processing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and iterate on client-centric solutions, participate in client meetings, and contribute to presentations and reports on project progress.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, implement, and optimize ML algorithms specifically tailored for Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Develop, train, and evaluate ML models customized for addressing challenges in summarization, Key Information Extraction
- Prepare and curate relevant datasets for ML training and optimization
- Utilize relevant commercial and open-source tools to enhance data and ML tasks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to develop minimum viable products (MVPs) and client-centric solutions
- Engage in regular client meetings, contributing to presentations and reports on project progress
- Optimize ML pipelines to ensure efficiency, scalability, and real-time processing capabilities
