Job Description
The Machine Tool Retrofit Technician provides solution-oriented technical and commercial support to customers. Primary responsibilities include installation and training on Renishaw machine tool products at customer facilities. The work involves extensive travel within Canada and occasional international travel.

Essential Job Duties

  • Field based installation of all Renishaw machine tool products.
  • Retrofit of Renishaw hardware to CNC machine tools.
  • Provide knowledge transfer of new software techniques and programming techniques.
  • Provide customer training of Renishaw macro software and PC based probing software.
  • Assist regional sales engineers with technical and marketing needs.
  • Interact with all market channels and develop relationships with OEM’s, end users, distributors and OEMD’s.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience: Minimum

  • Advanced Diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Electrical skills (understanding of schematics/relays/wiring/PLC)

Education and Experience: Preferred

  • Broad experience with using CAD/CAM/solid modeling software
  • Experience with the operation of CNC machine tools
  • Experience with CNC programming (G/M code)
  • General experience with a variety of CNC machine types and controls
  • General knowledge of custom macro / parametric programming

Knowledge Skills and Competencies

  • Aptitude to learn macro code for all CNC control types.
  • Technical understanding of CNC machine tools operation and kinematics.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills/discipline to allow setting proper work priorities and coordinating with customers.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues
  • Mechanical aptitude (including experience with use of power and hand tools/cable routing/assembly)
  • Electrical aptitude (including experience with multi-meter, wiring diagrams, wiring relays etc.)
  • Ability to comprehend and produce technical documentation and presentations
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and measurement principals (including GD&T)
  • Microsoft product knowledge
  • Information Technology knowledge
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Canada.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of intense conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
