Description:

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.
This is an opportunity to be seconded or appointed for a short-term contract of 3 months to manage the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Specialist Centre.
You will be working within the centre during core hours from Monday - Friday ( except Bank holidays) and based in a beautiful Macmillan centre which is a haven for patients, carers and staff. Most of the staff are volunteers, many very experienced. You will be responsible for the day to day management of the centre, meeting and greeting the patients and carers who drop in; coordinating access to complementary services and interventions and providing support and information to those who attend the centre.
You will be supported by an enthusiastic cancer management team and will be given a brief induction.
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service. UHS employees can access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
You will be required to practice as a cancer information and support specialist at an advanced level, including face-to-face support of patients and carers with complex needs, within a model of multidisciplinary teamwork.
Acting as a specialist resource of information and expertise to healthcare professionals within UHS and the local healthcare community, including outreach to UHS wards and departments.
Provision of practical and emotional advice and support to patients and carers regarding the impact of diagnosis, treatment, or disease progression.
We are looking for someone who will work collaboratively and in partnership with other healthcare professionals, offering appropriate leadership, guidance and supervision to colleagues and will ensure that the Macmillan Centre team members, including volunteers, assess patients and clients appropriately and refer to other practitioners and services as required.
