SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. health economics, public health, biostatistics) with substantial relevant experience in design or evaluation of public health interventions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of macroeconomic modelling to public health.
  • Demonstrated skills in analysing a variety of data sources, preferably administrative datasets, trial dataset and survey-based data.
  • Excellent communication and management skills suitable for coordinating multi-partner research projects and proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong research output, as evidenced by peer review publications, scientific presentations, and involvement in securing research funding.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities and diverse project requirements to ensure a high standard of work is delivered on time.
  • Extensive experience in the design and execution of research projects evaluating the macroeconomic impacts of infectious diseases and interventions to address them.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading high-quality research, including track record of obtaining competitive or contract research funding from the Australian Research Council, the National Health and Medical Research Council or similar organizations
  • Proven experience in project management and stakeholder engagement within government, clinical and research settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, mentor and develop capacity in research, and in particular, in macroeconomic modelling.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Responsibilities:

The Macroeconomist Health is expected to make independent or original contributions to the research effort within their field of research expertise and to the organisational unit or inter-disciplinary area of which they are part.
An academic at this level is expected to play a major role in research including the exercise of some leadership in research.
The position is within the Health Economics and Health Systems Research Group part of the Surveillance and Evaluation Research Program.
The role directly reports to Professor (Leader Health Economics and Health Systems Research Group) and indirectly to chief investigators on the Centre for Stronger Investments in Infectious Diseases.
