Supervisor’s Title & Department Structure: Terry Hudson, Mail Services Specialist (primary) & Rick Cash, Support Manager: Campus Logistics (secondary)
Session: Academic Year
Hourly Rate & Position Classification: $11.00 hourly, team member.
Average hours per week:7-8 hours weekly
Job Purpose: Offer exceptional customer service and operational excellence

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a student employee, this position is part of the University of Lynchburg Mail Services office working under the supervision of the Mail Services Specialist, as well as working with all other university professional staff, faculty, and fellow students.
The Mail Services Team Member is responsible for completing tasks that assist the day-to-day operations of Mail Services by staffing the mailroom which serves students, parents, summer guests, vendors, and visitors. Additional duties include: responding to questions; making referrals; data entry; operating standard office equipment. The successful candidate will gain experience in customer service, communication, teamwork, space organization, logistics, and a strong work ethic.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Availability during normal hours of operation with occasional Saturdays.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily operational checklist.
  • Sort, distribute, and redirect incoming mail and packages.
  • Prepare outgoing mail and packages.
  • Utilize package tracking software to maintain an accurate record of incoming and outgoing packages.
  • Distribute packages to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Perform regular audits of the mailroom package inventory and ensure data integrity of the package tracking software.
  • Assist the campus community with mailbox use and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Respond to student, guest, parent, faculty and staff inquiries about mail services.
  • Contact appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency.
  • Ensuring the mailroom is clean and organized.
  • Adhering to University safety standards.
  • Ensuring excellent levels of customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
