Job Title: Mainsite Male/Female Head Counselor
Based at: Brightwood Ranch
Reports to: Assistant Director
Hours of work: 4-month paid position - May-August
Salary: $1800/month + room & board*
Start Date: May 5th, 2025
Status: Contract Position ending August 22nd, 2025
Our Mission: Because of the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, Hope Mission exists to serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those in search of help, healing, and hope.
Our Facility: We are located on 220 acres of rolling hills one hour west of Edmonton. We offer 6-day overnight camps for children and youth ages 6-17. Activities include archery, riflery, zipline, climbing wall, petting zoo, horsemanship, bike trails/pump track, laser tag, and wide games. All cabins have shower and bathroom facilities.
Job Summary: As the Mainsite Head Counselor, you’ll provide essential guidance and support to our counseling team, helping them create positive and meaningful experiences for campers. Your leadership will encourage counselors to connect with campers, manage challenges, and foster growth. You’ll also offer additional support to campers who may need extra attention, ensuring they feel safe and included. This role is focused on building a supportive camp community and helping to make each day a memorable experience for both campers and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Servant leadership attitude.
  • Confidence giving instruction to a large group of children, youth, and counsellors/peers.
  • Creative problem-solving/de-escalation skills.
  • Works well with others in a team environment.
  • Fun, high-energy, quick thinking/response time.
  • Passion for preteens and children.
  • At least two years of experience working with children in some avenue.
  • Able to live on site in community for four months (May through August).
  • Drivers’ license is an asset.
  • Punctuality.
  • Good physical health - for wide games, skill-building activities, and walking distances.
  • Previous camp experience is an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s policies and procedures.
