Description:

  1. Scope of the role
    Role purpose:
    |
    To plan, schedule, organize & execute planned maintenance, by managing and continuously improving maintenance contracts with external partners to obtain the highest possible technical availability against the lowest cost. To maintain all manufacturing plant, equipment, and facilities in good working order. Improve equipment reliability by increasing the mean time between failure (MTBF) while reducing the mean time to repair (MTTR). Drive the reduction of Breakdowns to agreed targets.

Manage Maintenance:

  • Manage third party contract maintenance to ensure high availability and reliability of plant and equipment.
  • To set and obtain the maintenance objectives with third parties.
  • In consultation with Purchasing, to draw up and manage contracts for maintenance activities (outsourcing of maintenance) for non-production-related buildings and installations.
  • In consultation with the department Managers and the maintenance groups, to further develop the maintenance plan and to provide support in the execution thereof.
  • Monitor Third Party maintenance performance and work with them to requirements continuously improve plant performance. To formulate /standards for the maintenance concept and the maintenance plans.
  • To take charge of planning, scheduling, organizing maintenance and execution of maintenance
  • To draw up standards, procedures and working instructions for the development, management and application of maintenance improvement for the technical installations at the brewery,
  • To offer support in respect of maintenance cost and CAPEX
  • To take care of documentation management for non-production-related buildings and installations.
  • Fully manage the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) through SAP/Maximo for the maintenance group
  • Carry out repairs to all types of plant and equipment in a safe, timely and in a professional manner.
  • Assist and lead the development of planned preventative maintenance schedules (PPM).
  • Carry out PPM schedules as necessary and planned work orders as required.
  • Plan / prioritize workload to support production and ensure efficient use of working time.
  • Review job cards on post PM for quality of completion and execution of work as per job card
  • Manufacture spare parts as required (Simple Bracketry Gaskets etc…) using lathes, milling.

  • Diagnose fault, repair, and return equipment to operational service. All work to be carried out
  • operating in a safe and efficient manner. (A process of dynamic risk assessment is operated).
  • Identify spares requirements and control / log usage.
  • Effectively plan, coordinate, organise and execute yearly equipment maintenance overhauls & PM days on budget and on time
  • Full implementation of HACS strategy in all areas of responsibility, with year on year review for effectiveness.

Compliance:

Ensure maintenance procedures and equipment operations comply with both Heineken guidelines and legal regulations.

  • To ensure the transfer of the Heineken rules and guidelines in the field of maintenance and to supervise the implementation of these in the brewery.
  • To check the application of legal regulations, Heineken rules and guidelines, standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Execute statutory, legal inspections maintenance as required by OHS act 85 of 1993 regulations relating to DMR, PER, GMR, GSR, EMR, GAR, EIR. Maintenance engineer to familiarised themselves with OHS act 85 of 1993 and all its regulations.
  • Conduct machinery all emergency stops, interlocks, guard interlocks testing post every maintenance intervention.

Process Development:

Assist process improvement by suggesting and implementing modifications to maintenance procedures and plant and equipment.

  • In consultation with the departments concerned, to further develop the operating standards for current and newly constructed installations.
  • To submit proposals to department Managers and technical maintenance groups in respect of lasting improvements (regarding operation, maintenance methods or modifications.
  • To conduct research into developments and new methods in respect of technical maintenance and the relevant possibilities of application.

Staff Development:

Assist the development of brewery staff by providing technical expertise and for AM and PM processes.

  • To advise the Brewery Management in respect of maintenance systems, such as T.P.M. (Total Productive Maintenance) and the cooperation with external partners in this respect.
  • To recognise the training needs in the fields of maintenance knowledge and improvement skills and to issue relevant advice.
  • To carry out benchmark research

Safety, Health and Environment:

  • Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive improvement processes and set priorities in order to develop, implement and maintain best in class standards and basic conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years in engineering, production, or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience as maintenance engineer or similar roles BSc Eng., B-Tech, N6, T4 (National Higher Dip Mech/Elec Eng.), S4 (National Dip Mech/Elec Eng.)
  • 10-15 years’ experience as maintenance engineer or similar roles with 3 years project management and planning experience: N5 with Trade test certificate (Elec/Mech)
