Transdev Canada is hiring an Maintenance Instructor for our Brampton, Ontario location
Transdev Canada’s Rail Team is actively seeking a Maintenance Instructor who will support Training and Orientation requirements for LRT Systems stakeholders such as Emergency Services, Cities and others as required. Certifies and qualifies Transdev staff on the LRT System Infrastructure such as track, signalling, OCS, Light Rail Vehicles and Maintenance Recovery Vehicles on the Hurontario Light Rail Transit Operation.

WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally entitled to live and work in Canada.
  • Essential: Proven knowledge and experience of working in a complex safety-critical environment, preferably in the rail infrastructure industry.
  • Chartered or working towards chartered membership with relevant engineering professional body.
  • Work experience in an environment where rail vehicle components, vehicle bodies, inspections, cleaning, and service delivery occur on regular intervals.
  • Experience of direct and contract maintenance environments.
  • Proven ability in successful preparation and delivery of asset management plans.
  • Good working knowledge of the design and development of assurance processes.
  • Producing budgets, applying risk management techniques to achieve key success criteria.
  • A technician’s qualification in any of the following fields, electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulics and pneumatics, avionics, robotics or heating, ventilation and air conditioning, (preferably in the context of light rail vehicles).

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to supervise activities of employees in multi discipline positions within the facility.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, presentation development, spreadsheet, and publishing software.
  • Able to supervise and inspire staff working on a wide range of equipment and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of courses defined by. Management to meet corporate objectives as they pertain to employees and customers and contractual obligations.
  • Work well both autonomously as part of a team.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Possess both social and emotional intelligence with an ability to resolve conflict when it arises.
  • Will have the ability to identify and solve problems in a structured and analytical way and in a timely manner.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions, at night, and under pressure.
  • Must be willing to undertake competency unit training and assessment and licenses requested to be able to conduct duties.
  • Must be customer-focused with the ability to inspire your team with commitment and enthusiasm.
  • A highly self-motivated team player, with excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Capable of following work processes and routines.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Classroom and Practical instructions.
  • Ensure that all training materials, supplies, equipment, and locations are arranged and prepared in advance; reviews all the training materials of a program prior to the delivery of a class; adjusts schedules, and makes contingency plans as required. Communicates with other sections or departments as necessary.
  • Stays current on Ministry of Transportation (MTO) licensing changes, relevant legislation, regulations, rules, corporate policies, new equipment technology, task listings, lesson plans, work methods, legal requirements and operational and maintenance procedures which may impact training programs.
  • Assesses employee, external contractor and pre-employee hiring qualifications and ensures that students have the necessary pre-requisite certification and documentation.
  • Uses appropriate training techniques for adult education in practical and classroom settings.
  • Monitors and reports on student’s attendance and evaluate students’ performance in training sessions through practical assessments and the administration of written/or practical tests in accordance with department standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Recommends discontinuation of training where students qualifications or performance does not meet standards.
  • Certifies and qualifies Transdev staff in specific aspects of their job functions upon successful completion of the appropriate training programs. Ensures the safety of students in training environments that may include exposure to power sources and various work site hazards such as vehicular traffic, moving revenue and non-revenue vehicles or equipment, electrical, tripping hazards., during training, orientation, testing, or practical evaluations.
  • Supports Training and Orientation requirements for LRT Systems stakeholders such as Emergency Services, Cities and others as required.
  • Certifies and qualifies Transdev staff on the LRT System Infrastructure such as track, signalling, OCS and Fixed Facility Assets.
  • Adjusts training and testing techniques for individuals with special needs e.g. limited literacy, language skills, learning disabilities. Etc.
  • Maintain class discipline and promote a positive, safe and harassment free learning environment and take corrective appropriate action when necessary.
  • In the goal of ensuring effective delivery and evaluation of assigned training programs, this position will work with the following information: Training programs and various related materials, manuals, guides, tests, supplies, equipment.
