Description:

The Maintenance Operative – Painter will support the Estates Maintenance Team by primarily carrying out painting and decoration works but will also assist staff to undertake basic routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM), repair tasks, housekeeping and cleaning duties.
Work will be carried out to pre-set timescales, technical direction and standards

Responsibilities
Primarily carry out commercial and domestic painting and decoration works throughout the prison site and the college adjacent.
Carry out allocated tasks to support the delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules including assisting Estates Maintenance staff, building fabric inspections, fire systems and equipment maintenance testing and inspection, PAT Testing and Cell Certification. Complete all required documentation accurately and timeously. This work will be done under the direction of a competent engineer.
Maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment through regular housekeeping and hazard identification. Take a personal responsibility for reporting any dangers/deficiencies.
Undertake other routine work such as minor repair tasks on electrical, plumbing, building.
Training will be given where the necessary skills do not exist.
Assisting with the escorting of specialist external contractors when required.
Carry out housekeeping / cleaning duties.

Qualification Requirements
Minimum of two National 5’s, including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience of practical or manual working (including painting). (Essential)

MAINTENANCE OPERATIVE ROLES ARE BASED ON 37 HOURS PER WEEK WORKED ACROSS MONDAY TO FRIDAY AND WE PROVIDE ALL TOOLS AND PPE.

  • Currently the working hours for the role are 37 hours per week however following a recent pay negotiation agreement: “SPS’ contractual full-time equivalent working hours will reduce from 37 to 35 hours without a reduction in pay (effective 1 December 2024).”
