Job Description:
Position: Maintenance Operator
Shift: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Rotating schedules and overtime.
Reports to: Plant Manager
Compensation: $25/hr - $30/hr
The CAD hourly rate for this position is $25 - $30 + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the Canadian roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.
About this position and About You
The incumbent is responsible for the production of sulphur-based chemicals and the loading of them for transport in trailers and rail cars. Due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals being handled (corrosives posing a toxic inhalation hazard), the position requires a person who is extremely concerned about safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • Have a high school diploma or have completed general education (FG)

Competencies

  • Have a sense of initiative, be able to work with minimal supervision, be highly motivated and energetic, enjoy learning and work in a team
  • Have a positive attitude towards safety, proper wearing of PPE and following procedures
  • Strong computer skills, especially with regard to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Work and Excel)
  • Strong math skills and basic understanding of chemistry.
  • Strong mechanical skills. Experience working with plant equipment, including pumps, electric motors, actuators, valves, instrumentation, etc. (an asset)
  • Fundamental understanding of piping and instrumentation diagrams (an asset)
  • Experience in the transportation of dangerous goods (an asset)
  • Forklift training and experience (an asset)
  • First aid certificate (an asset)

Responsibilities:

  • Control and monitor plant equipment for the purpose of manufacturing and transferring chemicals. Measuring, mixing and adding chemicals to the reactors.
  • Observe pressures, temperatures, levels and flow rates and make operational adjustments as needed.
  • Perform quality tests on chemical samples.
  • Carry out transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) activities in compliance with regulations.
  • Perform pre- and post-loading inspections and checks.
  • Participate in industrial rail operations: loading and unloading railcars, moving railcars around the site.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and replace it once maintenance is complete.
  • Participate in field risk assessment and issue secure work permits for maintenance.
  • Participate in lockout and tagout activities (LOTO) for energy insulation.
  • Perform maintenance operations within the scope of application.
  • Keep the work area tidy, clean and neat. Participate in plant maintenance activities.
  • Ensure that records are accurately maintained and that procedures are followed.
  • Safely operate a forklift and wheel loader.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
