Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
As a member of the Power Distribution Group and reporting to the Shift Team Lead, Maintenance Substation, you will support maintenance and operations in high voltage transmission and distribution systems throughout Canadian Natural’s Horizon Oil Sands.
- Job location: Horizon Oil Sands Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
- Shift schedule: 7 x 7 days, 7 x 7 nights - 12 hours/shift

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Identify, evaluate and mitigate all hazards associated with working on or around electrical equipment; correct and report safety and environmental hazards
- Perform maintenance, repairs and testing on high voltage substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, GIS Switchgear, capacitor banks, cables, DC battery systems, protective relay and metering
- Perform Thermal Imaging, transformer oil sampling, and power quality analysis on electrical equipment
- Provide technical assistance in the troubleshooting of high voltage electrical equipment while ensuring the work is adequately documented in the computer maintenance management system
- Work in cooperation with the Planning group to scope out routine and major jobs including responding to unplanned power outages and after hour emergencies
- Prepare and perform operation and switching of high voltage equipment 260/72/34.5/13.8/kV, equipment isolation, voltage measurement and temporary protective system grounding
- Participate in creating, developing, reviewing and updating Procedures and Preventative Maintenance, as required
Responsibilities:
- Successful completion of a Power System Electrician Certificate, Electrical Journeyman Certificate or Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma is required
- 10+ years’ experience in operational, trouble shooting and problem solving with service high voltage equipment
- Proof and maintenance of a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent is required
- Experience with computer systems/software required in the testing and calibration of high voltage equipment and control systems
- Experience with protective relaying software from various vendors (SIEMENS, GE, SEL, ABB..etc)
- Knowledge of aerial equipment required to perform duties on high voltage equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Well-developed communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
